Anoteo

How accurate is Anoteo?

Photo analysis on the phone is the hardest thing Anoteo does. Rather than promise a number, we measure it with the same code that runs in the app, and publish the results here.

Where we are

The measurement is under way. The first results will be published here before launch, and again with every new model.

How we measure

  1. 1.200–300 dishes common in Israel, such as shakshuka, sabich, schnitzel, salads and home cooking, photographed and weighed. The true values come from the Ministry of Health database.
  2. 2.Each photo runs through the app's real pipeline on the device: recognition, the AI model, and the same estimator the app falls back to.
  3. 3.We report the median calorie error, the share of dishes within ±20%, the direction of the error (over or under), the error for protein, carbs and fat, and the time per dish.
  4. 4.Every model we ship is measured the same way, and the one with the best results becomes the default.

When the numbers are exact

A barcode or a nutrition label gives you the values printed on the package, and a food from the database gives its official values. Photo analysis is an estimate, and you can always correct the items and the amounts.

For a better estimate

  • Shoot from above, in good light, with the whole plate in the frame
  • Separate items that are mixed together, or describe them in a sentence
  • Correct the amount when a portion is unusual. The app shows the range it considered

Values are estimates for tracking, not a medical measurement.
